The map visualizes search interest for different coins by country, with the data sourced from Google Trends.
Google Trends normalizes search data to facilitate comparisons between terms. Consequently, a percentage of 90% for Bitcoin and 10% for Ethereum means that the search volume for “Bitcoin” is nine times higher than that of “Ethereum”.
You can click on the coins at the top of the map to select them. You can then compare them. For instance, the map for IOTA vs TRON shows the following search volumes:
Interesting observations
Bitcoin is by far the most searched coin in all countries. This comes as no surprise.
The market cap ranking does not mirror the search volume ranking. Dogecoin is not in the Top 30 by market cap, for instance. Yet it is placed in the Top 10 of most searched cryptocurrencies.
South America appears to be the most “Bitcoin Maximalist” continent, with 4 countries making the Top 10.
Asia seems to be most open to other cryptocurrencies. (Or maybe they are just confirming the gambling stereotype 😉 ).
Germany stands out as the only country in the world with more interest in IOTA than in Ethereum.
Why are some coins missing?
Search interest for “Dash”, “Neo” or “Eos” is ambiguous because people also search for those terms in different contexts. For some coins, there would be a way around that by comparing “[coin] wallet” or “[coin] chart” keywords. However, in the analysis smaller coins did not show enough search volume for these kinds of comparisons.
Equally missing are coins with insufficient search volume (<1%) in comparison with Bitcoin. For the Top Coins that means “Bitcoin SV”, “Binance Coin” and “Tezos”.

It’s odd that BSV is #5 in list but not on your map, are people are not searching for it?
I explained it in the text. No people don’t search for Bitcoin SV that much
Hi, I think there is a bias in Mexico, because “monero” Is a profession activity, it’s the traducción for catoonist.
Thanks! That makes sense
You do realise that four of the top ten are also in Africa, right?
I wonder how Dash is doing in comparison. Especially in Venezuela. Google Trends is looking good
